Four years after his remarkable 21,000-kilometre Dilmun-to-Dublin road journey, Bahraini travel enthusiast and publisher Ali Mushaima is set to take on another extraordinary driving feat. Taking this year’s trip in an LR3, the award-winning and luxurious family 4×4 from Land Rover, he will be visiting 12 countries promoting friendship though his tour themed “Bahrain to Britain: Voyage of Discovery.”

Starting this month and visiting Bahraini embassies in countries where they are located, he will drive through Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Italy, Switzerland, France, Ireland, Scotland and other parts of Britain where he will celebrate the end of his journey. The intrepid traveller plans to accomplish this 15,000-kilometre journey in two month, finishing in Silverstone, England, on July 6.

“At one of the Bahrain International Travel Exhibitions, His Highness the Crown Prince Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa asked me if I were planning another trip, and that got me excited about a new adventure. The friendship tour will provide me with a unique opportunity to promote my country’s history, culture and rich heritage while making new friends on the way,” said Ali.

Driving the correct vehicle for the journey was vital, and choosing Land Rover which manufactures the world’s finest, all-terrain vehicles was an obvious choice for him. Land Rover will also provide roadside assistance in all the Gulf countries he plans to visit.

Offering dynamic on-road and class-leading off-road capability, the LR3 has a number of technological innovations ensuring easy manoeuvrability on any terrain, suitable for the challenging terrains the traveller will face during his journey. LR3’s bold, distinctive design and the blend of power and performance will ensure a smooth drive while the spacious and comfortable interior will be ideal for his team of travel writers and photographers who will be joining him at various legs of the trip.

Among them will be well-known Radio Bahrain reporter David Bloomer, a qualified off-road driving instructor at Bahrain International Circuit (BIC). He will be giving live daily reports on Radio Bahrain  throughout the trip as well as also conducting interviews with people of interest en route.

Mushaima and his team will join in the celebrations of the company’s 60th anniversary by visiting Land Rover’s Solihull factory July 10 upon their arrival in the United Kingdom where a reception is planned to mark the end of his tour. During his journey, he will put to test skills learnt during BIC’s Adventure Drive Arabia programme.

He will also promote Bahrain as home of enthusiastic motor racing which also hosts the Formula One World Championship. He will distribute his recent travel guide, Visitor’s Complete Guide to Bahrain, and organise events during the expedition.

On completion of his tour, Ali will publish a travelogue highlighting his experience. The travel book will be available at bookstores and hotels across the country.
